Meet the Producer

Fabio Nelson Castaño

Fabio represents the heart of the Colombian coffee farmer: joyful, hardworking and deeply connected to the land. His warm personality can be felt throughout La Isla Farm, where he welcomes each day with the energy of someone who genuinely loves the work he has chosen.

Behind that joyful spirit is a life defined by discipline, patience and dedication. Fabio understands that exceptional coffee does not happen by chance. It is built through long days in the fields, careful observation and respect for every stage of the plant’s development.

Joy, Humility and Hard Work

The spirit of the Colombian countryside

Fabio is known not only for his coffee, but also for the joy and humility with which he lives. He is cheerful and approachable, yet deeply committed to his responsibilities as a farmer, producer and father.

His story reflects the strength of Colombia’s rural communities: people who work with their hands, care for the mountains and continue moving forward with optimism. At La Isla Farm, his personality is present in every path, every coffee tree and every carefully selected cherry.

“Exceptional coffee begins with love for the land, patience in the field and the courage to keep learning.”

A Rare and Demanding Variety

The courage to cultivate Wush Wush

Few coffee growers choose to plant Wush Wush. Compared with higher-yield commercial varieties, it can produce a smaller harvest and requires careful attention throughout the growing season. For many farmers, dedicating valuable land to such a demanding coffee represents a significant risk.

Fabio accepts that challenge because he believes extraordinary quality is worth the additional care. His approach prioritizes precision and cup quality over volume, allowing the variety’s delicate, expressive and complex character to develop.

His work with Wush Wush has received recognition in Colombia, reflecting both the quality of the coffee and his determination to continue improving every harvest.

Wush Wush is more than a rare variety at La Isla Farm. It represents patience, calculated risk and Fabio’s commitment to pursuing quality over quantity.
Apía, Risaralda

Coffee cultivated among mountains and forests

Apía is surrounded by the dramatic landscape of Colombia’s Andes. Mountain slopes, abundant vegetation, changing temperatures and carefully managed soils help coffee cherries mature gradually. At La Isla Farm, this environment becomes part of the cup, contributing elegance, sweetness and a distinctive sense of place.

Innovation Rooted in Tradition

Learning to reveal more from every harvest

Fabio continues educating himself in fermentation and post-harvest processing, including carefully controlled anaerobic techniques. His goal is not to cover the natural character of the coffee, but to understand how each decision can improve sweetness, clarity, balance and complexity in the final cup.

01

Careful selection

The quality process begins in the field with attention to plant health and the selection of cherries at the proper stage of ripeness.

02

Controlled fermentation

Anaerobic fermentation requires careful control and continued learning to create expressive flavors while protecting the coffee’s balance and cleanliness.

03

Continuous improvement

Every harvest becomes an opportunity to study results, refine techniques and produce an even more memorable coffee.

A Legacy for His Daughters

More than a farm

For Fabio, La Isla Farm is more than a place where coffee is grown. It represents his family’s future and the values he hopes to preserve for the next generation.

His greatest dream is for his daughters to continue the path he has built—to inherit not only the land, but also the knowledge, discipline, humility and love for coffee that have guided his life.

Every tree planted and every process improved becomes part of that legacy: a story created in the mountains of Colombia and carried forward through his family.
